The 2020 NextLandmark contest by Floornature entitled “An Educational Garden in Fiorano Modenese”, invited young architects to redesign external areas adjacent to “Casa Coccapani” nursery school in the province of Modena (Italy). The project was part of broader building renovation and seismic retrofit works that were recently carried out at the school.
The contest, organized under the supervision of SOS School of Sustainability, focused on researching innovative solutions for the areas used for the little ones’ outdoor activities and on designing a real “EDUCATIONAL GARDEN”. The goal of the winning project was to redesign “Casa Coccapani” outdoor area as a welcoming play area for learning, exploring and discovering the surrounding world, while ensuring beauty, accessibility, sharing and inclusion for its young guests.
Designed to make nature a driving force in children’s self-development, “Planetary Garden” by architect Bruna Sigillo was awarded as the proposal that best encompassed the objectives of the contest while demonstrating through accurate metrics its economic, social and environmental sustainability.
