Within this context, being SOS at the forefront of sustainable practices education, last week, the SOS students from the Master’s Program in Sustainable Architecture and Design had the chance to attend a lecture by Eng. Laura Tiburzi, - MCA BIM Unit Manager - focusing on BIM challenges in architecture and the use of BIM for complex project management.
Students delved into the features of BIM, which as an inclusive method, provides the common ground where ideas, needs, and skills can be brought together by improving project communication and control (from concept to decommissioning/reuse).

In a sustainable approach to design, adopting BIM is therefore almost a natural evolution of the way of working. The use of parametric tools is an important design ally, but it is from the involvement of the client and all stakeholders that the best of the method can be derived, increasing the quality of the final project. By properly structuring the information (and only that which is needed), it allows it to be questioned at the given moment, resulting in a virtual alter ego of the real building that, by its nature, lends itself not only to use during the years of the building's life, but can also be investigated as a “mine” in a circular economy perspective.
For the SOS students, almost at the end of their academic path, it is crucial to engage with professionals of this caliber, and taking part in such lectures is essential to further deepen and broaden their knowledge and face the world of work with greater awareness of current and future opportunities within architecture.
