The Post Carbon Project team will be in Abu Dhabi from the 28 of April to the 1st of May for a workshop at the Abu Dhabi University. The workshop is the kick-off of a shared research agenda that SOS – School of Sustainability will carry on with the Abu Dhabi research team of the Master of Science in Sustainable Architecture to address Architectural and Urban and Retrofit in the Gulf Region. A mixed team of students enrolled in the two programs will dedicate comprehensive environmental studies to Mina Al Zayed, former commercial seaport of Abu Dhabi located close to city center at one end of the Corniche. It is currently the object of several project initiatives by Abu Dhabi UPC for its progressive decommission as industrial area, and re-integration as cultural, tourist, and leisure urban area. The team will have four days to investigate the topic and to produce an outcome that will serve as a basis for further design development.
For the second year consecutively SOS – School of Sustainability dedicates, in collaboration with Mario Cucinella Architects, studies and research to the urban transformations that the UAE are facing, and to how natural and manmade ecosystems are impacted by global issues such as rising of the sea level, global warming, mobility and management of natural resources. Outcomes of the workshop will be shared at the completion of the end of the research phase.
