Innovation, social impact, and environmental responsibility: the fundamentals of the collaboration between SOS School of Sustainability and Manni Green Tech as part of the Master’s Program for sustainable design of the future.
SOS School of Sustainability is glad to announce that for the academic year 2023-24, Manni Green Tech will be a project track partner of the Master's Program in Sustainable Architecture and Design, providing its technical know-how to a group of 5 students, supporting them in the development of a project focused on social and environmental well-being.
"A Habitable Planet – Modular and Sustainable Solutions" is in fact centered around the development of student housing through an architectural, energetic, and environmental impact study of the building, with the application of Manni Green Tech construction technology.
The need to develop such a project arises from the challenges to be faced in the construction and real estate sectors characterized by the presence of old architectures in poor condition, resulting in high resource consumption, costs, and exponentially increasing prices. These factors, combined with a complex bureaucratic system with a long lead time, have caused a serious shortage in housing options for university students as one of the most pressing national social issues. The inspiration to address this need comes from Arch. Mario Cucinella's project, first presented in 2007, with the ambitious goal of creating a 100-square-meter residence for 100,000 euros, capable of achieving zero emissions and being economically accessible.
These sustainability principles, which are at the core of SOS School of Sustainability activities and fully aligned with Manni Green Tech's values, can also be found in the "A Habitable Planet" project. The proposal envisions a viable alternative through innovative architectural solutions that offer a high aesthetic level, contains costs, ensures low environmental impact, and, given the high modularity provided by Manni Green Tech's technological solution, allows for a remarkable speed of implementation, overcoming traditional construction techniques.
We are talking about the solutions offered by off-site construction, one of the most modern construction methods that fully meets these needs. Specifically, Manni Green Tech's dry steel technologies offer numerous advantages:
light and quick-to-assemble components that reduce on site number of processes and elements
maintaining cleanliness
modularity and reproducibility of structures
ease of maintenance
seismic safety
millimeter precision of design
fire resistance performance
accurate estimation of times and costs
high thermal-acoustic performance
The challenge for students will be to develop the architecture of a building that employs technologies meeting these principles, being easy to transport, economically accessible, and energy-efficient, without neglecting the aspect of modularity comparable to industrial standards, creating typological models that can be replicated for buildings with similar uses. To seal this collaboration and to get to know the reality of Manni Group more closely, yesterday, Tuesday 6 February, the SOS10 master's students went to the headquarters of Isopan in Trevenzuolo and Manni Sipre in Mozzecane to visit the factories and the R&D laboratory and to learn more about the company, in particular about ADDMIRA, ADDMIRA 2D.
It was an invaluable opportunity not only for the members of the project track working group, but for the entire class to immerse into a dynamic company that propels innovation in steel-related applications. The students had the unique opportunity to witness the intricate processes involved in the production, gaining insights into the advanced technologies and methodologies employed by Manni Group, one of the leaders of the sector driving innovation in the processing and application of steel in all its forms, developing cutting-edge solutions and services in terms of structural engineering, energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.
